Washington Mystics Rookie Georgia Amoore to Miss Entire 2025 WNBA Season Due to ACL Injury

In a significant setback for the Washington Mystics, rookie guard Georgia Amoore will miss the entire 2025 WNBA season after suffering a torn ACL during a training camp practice. The injury, which occurred less than a week into camp, required surgery on her right knee, which was successfully completed on May 16.

Amoore, the sixth overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, was expected to play a pivotal role in the Mystics’ backcourt. Her absence is a significant blow to a team undergoing a rebuilding phase under new head coach Sydney Johnson.

The Australian native had an impressive collegiate career, spending four seasons at Virginia Tech before transferring to Kentucky for her final year. At Kentucky, she averaged 19.6 points and 6.9 assists per game, leading the Wildcats to their first NCAA Tournament victory since the 2020-21 season.

Despite the injury, Amoore remains optimistic. In a message posted on Instagram following her surgery, she expressed gratitude for the support she’s received and determination to overcome this challenge. “I know I have the best people and the most amazing support around me to help attack this head on,” she wrote.

The Mystics, meanwhile, have started the season strong, securing victories in their first two games. Rookies Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen have stepped up, contributing significantly to the team’s early success.

While Amoore’s injury is undoubtedly a setback, both she and the Mystics are focused on the future, with plans for her to return to the court in the 2026 season.
